Every great joke has a punch line, and every great humor writer has an arsenal of experiences, anecdotes, and obsessions that were the inspiration for that humor. In fact, those who make a career out of entertaining strangers with words are a notoriously intelligent and quirky lot. And boy, do they have some stories.

In this entertaining and inspirational book, you’ll hear from 21 top humor writers as they discuss the comedy-writing process, their influences, their likes and dislikes, and their experiences in the industry. You’ll also learn some less useful but equally amusing things.

Funny and informative, And Here’s the Kicker is a must-have resource—whether you’re an aspiring humor writer, a fan of the genre, or someone who just likes to laugh.

Writer's Digest Editors' Intensive Events

Learn one-on-one from the staff of Writer's Digest at their headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. Get a professional editor's feedback on the first 50 pages of your manuscript. The final Editors' Intensive of 2009 is December 12-13.

During our intensive events, you receive:

  • a full day of practical workshops, in a small-group setting, with plenty of time for questions
  •  information on how to get your book published
  • insider advice on how to approach and query literary agents, editors, and book publishers
  • how to build your own site or blog, as well as use the newest online tools, including Facebook & Twitter, to build your career
  • step-by-step information on building an author platform
  • free subscription to WritersMarket.com
  • a list of potential markets for your work
The full day of workshops (on Saturday) always ends with a panel of Writer's Digest editors commenting on the quality of the manuscripts they read for the event, plus what makes them stop reading—followed by an open Q&A session and a Saturday evening reception.

Sunday is devoted to one-on-one meetings between attendees and editors. You'll get a full 30 minutes to meet with an editor and discuss your manuscript.
