Position: Antiques & Collectibles Community Leader

Description:

F+W Media is a leading enthusiast-based provider of community focused content, commerce, and connectivity.  Through the publication of books and magazines, the hosting and management of ecommerce and vertical websites, and the production of in person and online conferences, F+W Media has become a leader in the passion focused markets it serves.  The company is currently searching for a results-driven business leader to serve as Publisher and Editorial Director (Community Leader) for F+W Media’s collectibles content suitable for distribution through e-media, magazines, books, and events. The publisher is responsible for developing and executing the collectibles community’s strategic plan as fits the Corporate Directive.  The publisher will work in collaboration with the Presidents of F+W Media and the rest of the Exec Committee where appropriate to develop, launch and grow our brands, develop brand extensions and new products and cultivate new markets for these brands. Extensive market knowledge (specifically, of comics and/or pop culture collectibles) and demonstrated commercially orientated editorial expertise is required.
 
Primary Job Responsibilities:
/1/ To establish the community strategy and meet or exceed the community’s budgeted goals both in terms of revenue and contribution.

/2/ Financial Management
• Prepare annual budgets and quarterly financial forecasts.
• Effectively establish and manage budgeted overheads for all teams including product development and departmental expenses.

/3/ Brand Management
• Grow revenues and profits by developing, managing and growing all revenue and profit streams. Emphasis on community development and e-commerce growth; growth of the community served (as defined by unique visitors to our websites, opt-in e-mail names, e-store customers, and magazine and newsletter subscribers) and e-commerce revenue attributable to product sales (F+W Media and 3rd party), subscriptions, newsstand, advertising, book sales, events, competitions, digital products, custom publishing and other product extensions.
• Develop new products, as appropriate, to expand these product lines into related markets

/4/ Advertising Management
• Actively serve as our products’ senior executive at trade shows, industry events and on important sales calls
• Ensure the VP Ad Sales/field representatives are operating optimally for maximum revenue, market share, and profitability growth.

/5/ Publishing Program
• Work with the division President and director of book publishing within the community to establish a strategic vision for the book publishing program.
• Manage the presentation of all titles (print and digital) at the Publishing Board

/6/ Marketing Management
• Lead in the development and execution of targeted marketing programs and sales materials to drive consumer, retail customer and advertising revenue
• Establish partnerships with related 3rd parties to grow community and sales
• Develop timely, targeted market research and conduct regular competitive analysis

/7/ Editorial Management
• Oversee print, digital and in-person product development
• Oversee the integration and implementation of audience development and e-commerce best practices
• Effectively hire and manage editorial and design staff to execute the vision of the community and the brands.

The Community Leader is also expected to work to reach or exceed audience development and sales objectives; work with the Production Managers to ensure high-quality, timely, cost-effective production and delivery of the magazines, books and Internet-based products; demonstrate and communicate a thorough understanding of the brands and the community; actively identify and pursue new business growth opportunities; and work collaboratively with other F+W leaders and divisions.

Requirements:


• Bachelor degree; MBA a plus.
• 7 – 10 years editorial, sales or business management experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of collectibles market
• Demonstrated track record in e-media/e-commerce business development
• Entrepreneurial spirit, customer service focus, market knowledge
• P&L management experience
• Must have excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills
• Computer proficient in Microsoft applications:  Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
• Willing and able to travel as required
