| Description: | The Online Community Editor is responsible for developing and managing the content of F+W Media’s genealogy websites, primarily FamilyTreeMagazine.com and FamilyTreeUniversity.com, as well as other multimedia products. In this role, the Online Community Editor oversees the day-to-day operation of the Family Tree University online education program; develops content for a genealogy webinar program; coordinates the content and promotion strategy for the Family Tree Magazine Plus subscription service; and serves as the genealogy group’s social media czar. This position reports to the Publisher/Editorial Director and works closely with the editorial team, Online Product Manager and Marketing Manager to develop content that delivers budgeted revenue and EBITDA targets. At least a casual interest in genealogy/history is a must. Duties and responsibilities: • Write, edit, post and proof new and existing web content • Acquire, edit and update Family Tree University courses, recruit instructors and provide support to students • Manage content of the Family Tree University webinar program, selecting monthly webinar topics based on audience interest and sales potential, recruiting presenters, conducting rehearsals and overseeing the live events • Coordinate and execute marketing strategy for the webinar program as a whole and for individual events, working with the community marketing manager and art director • Write and edit a biweekly Family Tree University e-mail newsletter • Develop and manage editorial workflow for posting Family Tree Magazine Plus content • Implement the genealogy group’s social media strategy by engaging with the audience via Twitter and Facebook, blogging daily, using social networks to promote and market products, and maintaining a YouTube channel • Publicize Family Tree Magazine and Family Tree University online products/services to the wider genealogy community • Optimize content, keywords and search engine strategy to drive website traffic, and optimize product placement within editorial content to drive e-commerce sales • Prepare/distribute reports to management and staff on project metrics and profitability • Perform usability testing for proposed content features and strategy • Handle routine site maintenance and work with eMedia to ensure sites are performing as necessary • Research, evaluate for profitability and feasibility, develop and propose new online genealogy products • Other projects as assigned by Publisher |
